The “Basilicata Zero Barriers” ” project was launched by the association L’Ultima Luna, with the support of the Basilicata Region, to promote a truly inclusive society where every citizen can fully enjoy the right to mobility and access to public and communal spaces.

In July 2017, the initiative began with the Basilicata Zero Barriers “Coast to Coast” caravan, a symbolic journey from Maratea to Scanzano Jonico inspired by Rocco Papaleo’s famous film. Traveling in off-road vehicles, people with and without disabilities crossed the region in five stages, meeting mayors and local officials to sign the “Basilicata Zero Barriers” Manifesto.

The goal is to remove architectural and cultural barriers that still limit social inclusion, promoting a culture of participation and mutual respect. The Association chose to involve local authorities, schools, associations, and citizens in a path of awareness-raising and cooperative solidarity that places the individual and their dignity at the center.

The project was carried out in collaboration with Sinergie Lucane and Filippide, and supported by the Managing Authority of the European Social Fund 2014–2020, which recognized the campaign as a concrete example of promoting equal opportunities and combating social exclusion.
